Threshold Systems
A solo performance for modular synthesizer
Excerpt from a performance at Experimentik, Berlin — November 15, 2023 — video by the organizers
Threshold Systems explores the interaction between unstable analog feedback systems and structured pitch organization.
The work is based on pre-composed serial structures, which are continuously transformed in real time through a modular synthesis system. These controlled pitch relations interact with self-generating feedback processes, producing complex and often unpredictable sonic material.
The performance unfolds as a dynamic negotiation between control and instability. Dense, noise-like textures and unstable sonic fields are contrasted with moments of clarity, in which pitch structures emerge, stabilize, and dissolve again.
The modular system is approached as a tactile instrument, shaping form through continuous physical interaction rather than fixed composition.
Format: Solo performance Duration: 20–40 minutes; longer or multiple sets possible
